Type 2 Diabetes Medications Bad For Your Health? : Byetta / Januvia / Victoza

We are keeping an eye on some potential new medication claims, involving the type 2 diabetes medications, Byetta, Januvia, and Victoza. These recent developments are cause for concern:

•March 14, 2013: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated they were investigating reports of a possible increased risk of pancreatitis and pre-cancerous findings of the pancreas from incretin mimetic drugs for Type 2 diabetes, including Byetta, Victoza, and Januvia.

•April 18, 2013: The Institute for Safe Medication Practices’ most recent QuarterWatch reported that incretin mimetic drugs such as Byetta, Januvia and Victoza may be 25 times more likely to be linked to pancreatic cancer.

•May 1, 2013: Reuters reports that Merck saw a drop in quarterly sales of Januvia, which coincidently has been under scrutiny by the FDA after research linked the drug to pancreatic cancer.

We support the pursuit of civil justice against the manufacturers of certain products that may be detrimental to American, particularly New York State, consumers. With over 25 million Americans diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, the chances that you know of someone who is suffering from pancreatitis, thyroid or pancreatic cancer due to any of the aforementioned drugs are quite high. Should you have any questions about Byetta, Januvia and/or Victoza, please do not hesitate to contact us.
