Outpatient injection practices are under scrutiny

Unsafe injection practices are prevalent in the nation’s ambulatory health care
facilities, according to reports issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention and the Government Accountability Office. Multiple-dose
medication vials—which allow use of a new syringe for each patient, but also
permit backflow that can contaminate the medication—are at the heart of the
issue.
