Bronx Surgeon and Nurses Liable for Materials Left Inside Patient

July 10, 2012

A Bronx jury has determined that a obstetrician should to pay $900,000 for failing to remove surgical materials from a patient after performing a Caesarean delivery. During the delivery of twins, the surgeon neglected to remove a sponge and a surgical ring from the patient’s abdomen, and she later developed severe pain that necessitated additional surgery. The assisting nurses settled before trial. They were supposed to keep track of all surgical materials.
