TEXAS City pays $500K to man beaten by cops

A man who claimed he was ruthlessly beaten by Dallas police officers after a high-speed chase agreed to a $500,000 settlement. The injured claimant was then 26 years of age. He was stopped by the police officers for traffic violations. He then fled on his motorcycle. The chase, which the officers’ sergeant disallowed over the radio, ended when the police cruiser hit his bike. After the collision, claimant is said to have immediately dropped to the ground and spread his arms and legs. A dashboard camera showed the officers racing towards him from the patrol car. One officer struck him at least four times with his baton. The other officer’s conduct is described as hitting the man on the ground with his fists and knee and choked him. At some point, one of the officers allegedly moved a dashboard camera so that it pointed away from the scene. The officers were eventually fired.
