Profiling the Expert Witness

June 13, 2012

When defense counsel (i.e. our opposing counsel, since our law firm represents only injured claimants) identifies the Expert Witnesses they plan on producing at trial, for example the insurance company doctors who briefly examined the injured plaintiff, it is routine practice to obtain the expert witness’ profile. No trade secret in saying this.
The type of information available for pretty much any expert witness, thanks to the wide spectrum of online databases, will include the expert’s:

  • trial testimony history, often with accompanying transcripts
  • jury verdict reports
  • references in social media
  • professional licenses
  • certifications with verification (for example, medical board certifications)
  • publications
  • and more.

Obtaining the profile is an indispensable tool and an essential part of a Trial Lawyer’s due diligence in properly preparing our client’s case.
