NYSDMV – Lack of Vision

September 29, 2011

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV) has tossed out its requirement for eye / vision tests for driver’s license renewals. NY joins six other states with this dubious distinction. Starting Wednesday, New York’s new policy states that new drivers don’t need to prove they can see. Instead, new drivers can simply self-certify that she has adequate vision before taking to the roads. No more eye chart tests from 20 feet away. You just have to say that you can see before taking the wheel.
